War Service: 1861 with Thompson's Partisan Rangers, Pvt. in Lexington Rifles, 2nd Lt. later Lt. Col. of 2nd Kentucky Cavalry, Shiloh, Morgan's Ohio raid (c), exchanged in 1864, served in Eastern Kentucky and western Virginia, September 1864 promoted Brig. Gen. and took command of Morgan's cavalry, escort for President Davis and fugitive Confederate government.

Post War: Lawyer, politician, wrote memoirs, editor.
