War Service: 1861 recruited Wilkinson Rifles - Capt., July 1861 Col. of 16th Mississippi, Second Manassas, Harper's Ferry, Sharpsburg, November 1862 Brig. Gen., commanded Posey's Bde/R H Anderson's Divn at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Bristoe Station (w).

Post War: At the Battle of Bristoe Station on October 14, 1863, Posey was wounded in the thigh by a shell fragment. Although the wound was not outwardly serious, infection set in. He died a month later in November.
