Born: September 18 1815, Savannah GA
Died: March 15 1883, Savannah GA
Pre-War Profession: Graduated West Point 1838, duty in
artillery and quartermaster's departments, Mexican War, studied
the use of camels in the southwest, resigned December 1860.
War Service: 1861 appointed adjutant general and inspector
general of Georgia troops, December 1861 Brig. Gen. in Confederate
Provisional Army, resigned this commission in January 1862 after
having been ordered to Virginia, returned to previous position as Maj.
Gen., commanded two brigades of Georgia militia at the start of the
Atlanta campaign, June 1864 relieved of field command,
returned to administrative duties.
Post War: Lumber businessman.
