on seacoast defenses, Mexican War, resigned 1848, planter, militia
officer, as state chief of ordnance ensured that the state was well-armed.
War Service: 1861 engineer-in-chief of Morris Is. defenses,
Capt. then Maj. on Beauregard's staff, October 1861 Brig. Gen. in
command of Dept. of Middle and Eastern Florida, divisional command
under A S Johnston, Corinth, relieved of command, commanded Dept.
of South Carolina, administrative duties in South Carolina.
Post War: After the end of the war, Trapier returned to farming in South Carolina.
