Gen., commanded the post at Grand Junction TN, helped organize Army of Tennessee, commanded 3rd Bde/Withers' Divn at Shiloh, commanded Jackson's Bde/Breckenridge's Divn at Murfreesboro, Bridgeport AL, commanded Jackson's Bde/Cheatham's Divn at Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, commanded Jackson's Bde/Walker's Divn at the start of the Atlanta campaign, commanded District of Florida, defense of Savannah.
