resigned May 1861.
War Service: 1861 Capt. of artillery, Lt. Col., staff
officer, Jackson's Shenandoah Valley campaign, Seven Days,
Second Manassas campaign, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville,
May 1863 Brig. Gen., commanded Jones' Bde/Johnson's
Divn at Gettysburg (w), Mine Run (w), Wilderness (k).
Post War: In the early days of the Overland Campaign of 1864, Jones was killed at the Wilderness while attempting to rally his wavering men.
