Pre-War Profession: Graduated West Point 1849, frontier duty, resigned May 1861.

War Service: May 1861 Capt. of cavalry, Wilson's Creek, October 1861 Col. of 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles, January 1862 Brig. Gen. in Confederate Provisional Army, Elkhorn Tavern (k).

Post War: At the Battle of Pea Ridge, he commanded a brigade in the division of Ben McCulloch, who was killed by Union infantry fire. Shortly after assuming division command, McIntosh was leading an advance when he was struck and killed by a bullet, less than fifteen minutes after McCulloch's death.
