Died: May 16 1863, Bakers' Creek MS
Pre-War Profession: Graduated West Point 1836, resigned that
year, railroad construction engineer, Mexican War, Captain
in Maryland militia.
War Service: October 1861 Brig. Gen., inspected Forts
Henry and Donelson, reported their being unready, Fort Henry (s),
commanded Tilghman's Bde/Loring's Divn at Corinth, Holly Springs,
Vicksburg campaign, Champion's Hill (k).
Post War: In the Vicksburg Campaign of 1863, he was hit in the chest by a shell and killed in the Battle of Champion Hill.
