Pre-War Profession: Graduated West Point 1840 (1st in class),
taught engineering at West Point, resigned 1845, Mexican War,
planter, governor.
War Service: 1861 Col. of 1st Louisiana, August 1861 Brig.
Gen., commanded Dept of Texas, District of West Louisiana and
Texas, District of Texas and Territory of Arizona, fought only at
Milliken's Bend, commanded the Trans Mississippi at the end of the War.
