War Service: 1861 Recruited Augusta Lee Guards as captain ,
and was assigned to the 25th Virginia infantry, under Colonel Heck.
Capt., Western Virginia, McDowell, Shenandoah Valley campaign,
Cedar Mountain, Second Manassas, Sharpsburg, Maj., served with Imboden
in Western Virginia, Gettysburg campaign, Lt. Col., Mine Run, Wilderness,
Spotsylvania, May 1864 Brig. Gen., commanded Early's old brigade in
Early's Washington raid, Stephenson's Depot (w,c), freed after four days,
commanded reserve forces in Shenandoah Valley.
Post War: Financial agent for Washington College.
