War Service: May 1861 Col. of 7th Tennessee, Cheat Mountain, Savage's Station, May 1862 Brig. Gen., commanded Hatton's Bde/G W Smith's Divn at Seven Pines (k).

Post War: He was shot in the head and killed while leading his Tennessee Brigade at the Battle of Fair Oaks.
