War Service: 1861 Capt. in Florence Guards, May 1861 Col. of 7th Alabama, served in Pensacola, January 1862 Brig. Gen., commanded 3rd Bde/Hardee's Corps at Shiloh, commanded 4th Bde/Buckner's Divn at Munfordville and Perryville (w), commanded 4th Bde/Cleburne's Divn at Murfreesboro, commanded Dist. of North Alabama, rejoined his brigade under Cleburne at Chickamauga, resigned his commission October 1863.
