Gen. of Volunteers, commanded a division and the cavalry in the Army of the Mississippi, Mobile, May 1865 promoted Maj. Gen. of Volunteers

Post War: Army service, particularly fighting Indians, commanded the Dept of Arizona and Districts of New Mexico and Indian Territory, retired 1890
