Pre-War Profession: Rope manufacturer, Mexican War, lawyer, militia officer.

War Service: April 1861 Col. of 10th Illinois, May 1861 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded in Northern Missouri, commanded 6th Divn/Army of the Tennessee at Shiloh (c), released after 6 months, November 1862 promoted Maj. Gen. of Volunteers, served on Porter's court martial, commanded Dists in Arkansas, resigned October 1863.

Post War: Lawyer, pension agent, land office official.
