War Service: 1861 served in a camp of instruction, November 1861 Col. of 65th Ohio, Shiloh, commanded 20th Bde/6th Divn/II Corps at Perryville, commanded 3rd Bde/1st Divn/XIV Corps at Stone's River, commanded 3rd Bde/1st Divn/XXI Corps at Chickamauga, september 1863 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 3rd Bde/2nd Divn/IV Corps in Atlanta campaign, Kennesaw Mountain (mw).

Post War: Harker was shot from his horse and mortally wounded during a failed attack on June 27, 1864.
