Bde/1st Divn/Cavalry in Shenandoah Valley campaign, Third Winchester,
Tom's Brook, Cedar Creek (mw), he was appointed Brig. General of
Volunteers on the day of the battle.
Post War: He was mortally wounded during the Union counterattack at the Battle of Cedar Creek on October 19, 1864
