Pre-War Profession: Graduated West Point 1841, fought Indians in Florida,
garrison and frontier duty, Mexican war, staff duties.
War Service: May 1861 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, organisation
and training duty with Army of the Potomac, led the Army of the Ohio into
Tennessee, Shiloh, advance on Corinth, March 1862 promoted Maj. Gen. of
Volunteers, resisted Confederate invasion of Kentucky, Perryville, relieved of
command, investigated by a military commission, spent a year awaiting orders, resigned June 1864.
Post War: President of an ironworks, pension agent.
