War Service: September 1861 Capt. in 44th New York, Maj., Yorktown, Lt. Col., September 1862 Col. of 116th New York, commanded 1st Bde/1st Divn/XIX Corps at Port Hudson (k), May 1863 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers. Posthumously promoted.
Post War: He was wounded in the knee early in the contest, received a mortal wound from a MiniƩ ball in the head within a few yards of the Rebel breastworks causing his death.
