Dept of Western Virginia, commanded a corps in Shenandoah Valley campaign,
October 1864 promoted Maj. Gen. of Volunteers, captured in Cumberland MD,
exchanged March 1865, commanded a division of cavalry in Army of the Potomac
in Appomattox campaign
Post War: Army service as Indian fighter, commanded
the Division of the Missouri.
