War Service: June 1861 Col. of 15th Indiana, service in West Virginia,
Shiloh, November 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 2nd
Bde/1st Divn/XIV Corps at Stone's River, commanded 2nd Bde/2nd Divn/IV
Corps at Missionary Ridge, Atlanta Campaign, commanded rear guard of
Schofield's forces at Franklin, December 1864 released from duty
at his own request.
Post War: Lawyer. President of the state Agricultural Society.
