War Service: January 1862 Col. of 60th New York, April 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 3rd Bde/2nd Divn/II Corps at Cedar Mountain, commanded 2nd Divn/XII Corps at Antietam, commanded 3rd Bde/2nd Divn/XII Corps at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, Wauhatchie (w), returned to duty 1865.
