War Service: April 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded
2nd Bde/2nd Divn/II Corps at Cedar Mountain (c), released December 1862,
commanded 5th Divn/XVIII Corps at New Berne and Kingston, commanded 2nd
Divn/III Corps in the pursuit of the ANV after Gettysburg, judged to have performed
unsatisfactorily in the Mine Run campaign, commanded garrisons in Illinois,
North Carolina and Georgia.
Post War: Army service in paymaster's department, retired 1879
