War Service: 1861 Capt. in 12th New York, Blackburn's Ford, First Bull Run, Malvern Hill (w,c), exchanged soon after, September 1862 Col. of 149th New York, Gettysburg (w), Lookout Mountain (w) - Medal of Honor, Atlanta campaign, commanded 3rd Bde/2nd Divn/XX Corps in March to the Sea, Savannah, May 1865 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers.
