Pre-War Profession: Graduated West Point 1837 (1st in class), engineer duty, Mexican war

War Service: May 1861 chief engineer of Dept. of the Ohio, served in Western Virginia, Corrick's Ford, August 1861 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, Secessionville, relieved of command, commanded engineer brigade of Army of the Potomac, engineering duty.

Post War:  Army service in engineers, retired US Army 1882.
