Pre-War Profession: Graduated West Point 1831, instructor at West Point, served in Charleston Harbor in the 1832-33 Nullification Crisis, resigned US Army 1837, college professor.

War Service: April 1861 Capt. in 12th Ohio, June 1861 Col. of 24th Ohio, Western Virginia campaign, Shiloh, advance on Corinth, July 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, garrison commands and courts martial, resigned January 1865

Post War:  Surveyor, civil engineer.
