of Volunteers, Antietam (w), commanded II Corps, commanded IX Corps,
commanded VI Corps at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Rappahannock Bridge,
Mine Run, Wilderness, Spotsylvania (k).
Post War: Sedgwick died at the beginning of the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, on May 9, 1864. He was shot by a Whitworth rifle bullet moments later under the left eye and mortally wounded.
