Gen. of Volunteers - appointment expired March 1863, reappointed March 1863, commanded a 1st Bde/2nd Divn/III Corps at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, assigned to Army of the James, commanded 3rd Divn/XVIII Corps (a division of Black troops).
