War Service: 1861 Capt. in 1st US Infantry, Wilson's Creek (w), September 1861 Col. of 11th Missouri, commanded at Ft Girardeau, October 1861 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 5th Divn/Army of the Mississippi at New Madrid and Island No 10

Post War: He died in camp at Corinth on August 9, 1862 from lingering effects of his wounds and prolonged exposure in the field.
