War Service: June 1861 Col. of 19th Illinois, commanded 3rd Divn/Army
of the Ohio at Huntsville, court-martialled for permitting looting and pillage at
Athens AL, reprieved by Pres. Lincoln after his wife interceded, July 1862
appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 3rd Bde/4th Divn/XIV Corps
at Chickamauga, commanded 1st Bde/3rd Divn/XIV Corps at Missionary Ridge,
Atlanta campaign, resigned October 1864 because of ill health.
Post War: Engineer, patent lawyer.
