War Service: November 1861 Col. of 11th Maine, appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers (April 1862) commanding 1st Bde/1st Divn/II Corps, Peninsula campaign, Fredericksburg (w), Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Mine Run, relieved of duty in Army of the Potomac March 1864.

Post War: Lawyer, US consul in Valparaiso, US minister to Uruguay, US consul in Costa Rica.
