War Service: :1861 helped raise the 1st Tennessee - Lt. Col.,
Wild cat Mountain, Mill Springs, March 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of
Volunteers, Cumberland Gap, commanded 1st Bde/2nd Divn/Center
Wing at Stone's River, Knoxville, court martialled and dismissed August
1864 for his anti-emancipation sentiments.
Post War: Spears returned to his farm in Bledsoe County, and began rebuilding his fortune. His health, which had suffered during the war, continued to decline.
