Pre-War Profession: Graduated West Point 1843, Mexican War, recruiting
and garrison duty, Utah expedition.
War Service: 1861 Capt. in 7th US Infantry, captured at St Augustine Pass
(July 1861), exchanged after a year, September 1862 Col. of 12th New Hampshire,
Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville (w,c), exchanged after 5 months, served as Provost
Marshal General of Ohio, commanded 2nd Bde/3rd Divn/XXIV at Hatcher's Run,
served as chief of staff in XXIV Corps at Petersburg, Appomattox campaign, May
1865 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers.
Post War: Army service on the frontier, governor of a
soldier's home, retired 1886.
