War Service: 1861 volunteer aide to McDowell at First Bull Run, August 1861 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, military governor of District of Columbia, commanded 1st Divn/I Corps at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, commanded 4th Divn/V Corps at Wilderness (k).

Post War: Wadsworth was mortally wounded on May 6, trying to turn his two intact brigades when he was shot in the head and fell from his horse.
