Gen. of Volunteers - appointment expired March 1863, commanded 2nd Bde/2nd Divn/II Corps at Fredericksburg, March 1863 reappointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, Chancellorsville, arrested on the march to Pennsylvania, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, mustered out July 1864.
