War Service: August 1862 Col. of 104th Ohio, garrison duty in Kentucky, commanded 1st Bde/3rd Divn/XXIII Corps at Knoxville siege, commanded 3rd Divn/XXIII Corps in Altanta campaign, July 1864 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 1st Bde/3rd Divn/XXIII Corps at Franklin, Carolinas, resigned April 1865.
