Pre-War Profession: Entered West Point May 1813, graduated June 1814, War of 1812, fought Creek and Seminole Indians, garrison duty, Mexican war, ordnance duty.

War Service: August 1861 Brig. Gen. in Regular army, April 1862 assumed direction of Ordnance Dept., fought against introduction of breech-loaders, replaced September 1863, appointed Inspector of Armaments of Forts on New England Coast.

Post War: Army service, inspector of government armaments.
