November 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, Fredericksburg, commanded
2nd Bde/1st Divn/I Corps at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, commanded 1st
Bde/4th Divn/V Corps at Wilderness, commanded the division after Wadsworth
died, relieved at his own request for health reasons, draft duty, resigned June 1865
Post War: He died from a stroke, in 1866 which doctors attributed to complications from his Globe Tavern wounds
