War Service: May 1861 Maj. in 5th US Artillery, First Manassas, chief of artillery in Washington defences, commanded artillery reserve in Peninsula campaign, Malvern Hill, September 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, chief of artillery in Army of the Potomac, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, commanded siege operations at Petersburg.

Post War: After the Civil War, Hunt served at multiple military installations including Fort Wayne, Indiana and Fort Totten, North Dakota
