War Service: April 1861 Capt. of 10th Indiana, September 1861 Col., Rich Mountain, commanded a brigade at Fishing Creek KY, March 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, Richmond KY (w,c), exchanged two moths later, opposed Morgan's Ohio raid, commanded 2nd Bde/3rd Divn/XXIII Corps in Atlanta campaign, Resaca (w), resigned December 1864.

Post War: US congressman, state auditor, lieutenant governor, collector of inland revenue.
