served in West Virginia, commanded 15th Bde/6th Divn/II Corps in the advance on
Corinth, April 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 1st Bde/1stDivn/XIV
Corps at Stone's River, commanded Dist of Indiana, Knoxville, commanded 2nd
Divn/XXIII Corps in Atlanta campaign, October 1864 resigned.
