resigned from the army in 1851, served in Napoleon III's Imperial Guard in Italy.
War Service: May 1861 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded
1st Divn/III Corps in Peninsula campaign, Seven Pines, July 1862 promoted Maj.
Gen. of Volunteers, Second Bull Run campaign, Chantilly (k).
Post War: He was shot with a MiniƩ ball that entered his hip and came out his shoulder, killing him instantly 1862, at the Battle of Chantilly.
