War Service: August 1861 Maj. and chief quartermaster of the Army of the Potomac, September 1861 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers - appointment expired, asked to be relieved of his post, transportation and supply duty in New York, March 1865 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers.

Post War: Army service in quartermaster's department, retired 1881.
