War Service: April 1861 1st Lt and adjutant of Erie Regt. Pennsylvania Volunteers, Lt. Col. of 83rd Pennsylvania, Yorktown, June 1862 Col., Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, commanded 3rd Bde/1st Divn/V Corps at Gettysburg (mw), July 1863 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers.

Post War: A bullet struck him through the thigh and the groin and he fell. Vincent was carried from the hill to a nearby farm, where he lay dying for the next five days, unable to be transported home due to the severity of his injury.
