13th US Infantry, April 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 1st
Bde/1st Divn in Shenandoah Valley campaign, commanded 1st Bde/1st Divn/II
Corps at Cedar Mountain, commanded 1st Bde/1st Divn/XII Corps at Antietam (w),
commanded Pennsylvania Reserve Corps in Washington defences, they became the
3rd Divn/V Corps at Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania,
Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Five Forks.
Post War: Army service, retired 1873.
