Gen. of Volunteers, Tullahoma, commanded 2nd Bde/2nd Divn/XXI Corps at Chickamauga, commanded 2nd Bde/3rd Divn/IV Corps at Chattanooga, Knoxville, Atlanta campaign, commanded 2nd Divn/XV Corps, March to the Sea, December 1864 promoted Maj. Gen. of Volunteers, Carolinas campaign
