Pre-War Profession: Graduated West Point 1851, frontier duty in New
Mexico and Texas, quartermaster at Indianola Texas when Texas insurgents
captured the post, escaped to fight again.
War Service: August 1861 Capt. and assistant adjutant general to Hunter
at First Bull Run, Capt., Maj., July 1863 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers,
duty in Departments of Pennsylvania, Virginia, Middle Military Department, sundry
other posts, November 1863 Adjutant General of the Army and Department of the
Cumberland, chief of staff to Thomas, Chattanooga, Atlanta campaign, appointment
expired, reappointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers November 1864,
Franklin and Nashville campaign.
Post War: Army service as a staff officer, retired 1890.
