War Service: November 1861 Capt. in 2nd West Virginia Cavalry, Maj., Lt. Col., Sinking Creek VA - Medal of Honor, May 1863 Col., Wytheville (w,c), exchanged after 6 months, served in Sheridan's Shenandoah Valley campaign, commanded 2nd Cavalry Divn at Cedar Creek, October 1864 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, resigned January 1865.

Post War: Manager of an ironworks, engineer, businessman, collector of internal revenue.
