Pre-War Profession: Graduated West Point 1825, Florida War, Mexican war, dismissed from the service after 1855 because of agitation from pro slavery forces in Kansas where he was stationed.

War Service: May 1861 organised 1st New Jersey - Col., May 1861 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, administrative duties, April 1864 resigned due to ill health.
