War Service: August 1862 Col. of 94th Illinois, Prairie Grove, November 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 2nd Bde/Herron's Divn in Vicksburg campaign, inspector of prison camps, resigned April 1864.

Post War: Special agent of US Treasury, he died of tuberculosis contracted in the Vicksburg campaign.
